Brighten that grout

April 24, 2017

We have listed our house for sale and one of the last things we needed to address was the kitchen floor. Any time we have tried to whiten the grout in our tile floors we’ve always headed to the hardware store to purchase one of the bleach like whitening pens. Well….we tried that to no avail.

Talking about cleaning products is not typical on this blog BUT what we found that actually worked was so good that I just had to stray from the typical and share with all my friends. So I hope y’all don’t mind, but this is good.So after asking my favorite teacher (also known as Miss Pinterest) I found the cheapest and most surprising solution. As easy as Baking soda + Hydrogen Peroxide.

Here is my precious helper. Now, this is only a retelling of what we did. We already cleaned our floor but boy-oh-boy you should have seen the before. The grout was DARK.

And seriously you guys, this is crazy easy. You pour out some baking soda (mine was $0.69) into a bowl.

Add in some hydrogen peroxide ($0.99) until you have a paste.

Next you place some dollops on the grout and scrub, scrub, scrub. We used a hard bristled brush. We scrub and then allow it to sit for an hour or overnight. Timing really doesn’t matter, but an hour at the very least.

Cleaning up isn’t the most fun but it was worth the effort. Plus I have a lot of kids so everyone was involved. We used wet sponges and a wet mop to clean up all the baking soda mixture. I promise you it’s worth it.

My husband needed to clean the oven window and tried the baking soda/hydrogen peroxide mixture and it worked!! Miss Pinterest has shown that it works on splotchy baking pans as well!

So there ya go, my one cleaning tip for you. You’re welcome 🙂 Put this under Frugal Tips.

Blessings!
