My deepest apologies for having been absent for so long. I have a very good reason why I’ve been in hiding. Which you’ll discover somewhat through this post.
Back in January had the honor of being accepted as a One Verse Blogger. I was so excited to hear of our first assignment. To go throughout our house and collect all of our Bibles. At first I was very eager to begin. Then I looked around my house. Oh the clutter. There was no possible way I was going to find all of them. I was laden with guilt. My house was filled with Bibles that were so tucked away and not in our hearts. So I began a journey. For the past six weeks I’ve been decluttering my house. But this will be an entirely different post so fast forward to the present and I easily walked through the house and gathered all of our Bibles that hadn’t been donated in the past month and a half.
This isn’t even all of them! As I’m writing I’m remembering others. My favorite one that I keep in my purse. I’m sure there’s one in the car. There’s a double of the Jesus Storybook Bible {one for the kids and one for mom and dad to read from}. At least 23 in total.
{{I just remembered my phone and kindle! Those should have been photographed as well!}}
I recall some years ago a loved one telling me we didn’t have enough Bibles in our house. At the time we only had a couple. And honestly? I was offended. How many Bibles does one need after all?? I kept recalling a story of a man in Africa who only had one page from a Bible, that’s it. And he poured over it and memorized each and every beautiful word he was able to receive.
It’s been quite a few years and I realize how strong I was in my faith, but how naive I was also. My loved one was right. We had a couple Bibles and that was not enough. Not for each one of us to have. And not for other areas of our homes. As spoiled as I feel writing this, I love that we all have the same Bibles that we read around the kitchen table. My children each have their own Bibles appropriate for their ages. We have study Bibles, storybook Bibles, Archeological Bibles, NIV, ESV, KJV, etc.
Growing up the only Bible I had was the childrens Bible you see on top in the back row. We had a humongous Bible that sat on a stand in our living room but no one ever opened it or read from it. Probably an old family Bible passed down through the generations?
How many Bibles are in your home? Would you be willing to take a photo and share? I’ll be more than happy to share the photos on here in a future post. How many Bibles do you think a family needs?
Do you know there are entire people groups that don’t have the word of God? Have never even heard of the Word?? I won’t lie, I feel blanketed in guilt for having so many Bibles and only one of them has been completely read through. One is even still in its box for goodness sake! But God does not condem a reptentive heart. I am excited to be taking my family on a journey through the Bible alongside my husband. I want my children to know how important His word is. I want our house littered with Bibles! And I want the world littered with Bibles as well. I’m praying that those unreached people groups will “taste and see that the Lord is good.”
