Out of the Valley

August 11, 2014

We sometimes have deep struggles in life. They seem like they can go on for days, months and sometimes years. Here we are always serving others and no one is there to serve us. Not that we would tell anybody that we’re in need, of course.

And sometimes all it takes is a little change in perspective to see our blessings and our purpose.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Galatians 6:9-10 ESV)

I always thought we were to tend “especially” to those who didn’t know Christ. That verse, though, that verse made me think of how many times I serve my brothers and sisters in Christ. We drop gospel tracts and occasionally share Christ in front of the abortion mills to the lost, but I couldn’t think of how I serve the church body. I’m a wife and a mother, yes, but something was lacking. Last week I began praying each day for Yahweh to show us how we can be a blessing to His children. Not just to anybody but specifically to His followers.

Let me tell you, He made known at least one opportunity every single day. And every morning I still continue to ask Him to show me how I can show His love to His children. It hasn’t even been an entire week and he’s brought before us two births, three miscarriages, three sicknesses and a broken marriage.

Where have I been?? Why have I not been His hands?? If I’m brutally honest, I’ll tell you why. Because in my mind *I* was the one struggling. My eyes were so focused on *me* that I didn’t see the need right in front of me. And yes, even celebrating new life is a need! A joyous need! Not all service will bring you to tears and weigh heavy on your heart. But we are to weep with those who weep.

Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. (Romans 12:15 ESV)

My loves, who can you serve today? I beg you to ask Yahweh to open your eyes to the needs of His children. And when an opportunity arrises, don’t make an excuse. There is a 100% chance you will be asked to do something out of your comfort zone. Know that you are obeying His commands and you would want the same love shown to you. It could be as simple as a card in the mail, a meal made and delivered, laying hands and praying over them or it could be a lot more. Learn to recognize the Holy Spirit speaking to you and obey Him when He calls you to serve another.

This will grow your heart immensely. That was not what I expected. I just thought I’d be obedient and that would be it. But no, it brings so much joy, especially when it seems that evil is reigning in this world.

There is good. There is beauty. There is love. And you’re just the vessel He’s going to use to show it.

But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. (Isaiah 64:8 ESV)

Be His light in a dark and quiet world. There are many around you suffering silently.

Blessings!
